Air Traffic Control Simulator

Runway Services presents a state-of-the-art air traffic control simulator currently in service at a training institute in Oman. The system was purchased in 2019 from Artisys, Czech Republic, has been well maintained and is in excellent working condition, requiring no updates for optimal performance.

Controller and pilot positions

Each of the two Controller Working Positions includes a computer, a 24" full-HD Situation Display (SDD), a 24" full-HD Flight Data Display (FDD), a 17"–19" meteo display, a dedicated VCS computer with 12" touchscreen, headset with microphone, PTT footswitch, speaker, keyboard and mouse. CWP 01 additionally includes a joystick.

The two pilot positions each provide a PIL computer, 24" full-HD display, VCS computer with 12" touchscreen, headset, PTT footswitch, speaker, keyboard and mouse — enough to run realistic two-controller exercises with dedicated pseudo-pilots.

3D visualization for tower training

The out-the-window environment is driven by three image generator computers feeding four 65" displays on stands, with a 5.1 sound system for engine, ground and environmental audio. Special 3D effects support is included in the system software.

Software and exercise preparation

Licences cover SDD, FDD, meteo and VCS for the controller positions, PIL and VCS for the pilot positions, and image generation and sound generation for the visualization channels.

The exercise preparation workstation carries FIR Mapper, TWR Mapper, Strip Designer, ACE, INCA Basic, INCA Profi Presimulation and the INCA Profi flights database — so airspace, aerodromes, strips and traffic samples can be authored in-house.

System-level capability

At system level the simulator provides ATG and STG traffic generation, a weather simulator, embedded ATM system functionality, Safety Nets and RIMCAS — the safety-net tooling required for realistic runway incursion and conflict-alert training.

The system is offered complete with server, data switch, UPS and system console.
